Tea Parties

I’m not big on protesting. I prefer blogging and podcasts as a means to get my opinions out there and to fight for what I believe in. I prefer active debate to passive sign-holding. Besides, isn’t protesting something that anarchists and eco-terrorists use as an excuse to destroy property and inhale the sweet aroma of tear gas?

The closest I ever came to an actual protest was in 1998: President Clinton had decided to lob some missiles into Iraq in response to their repeated firing on US planes in the no-fly zone. I was driving with my friend through downtown Cincinnati and we saw about a dozen Arabs in front of the Federal Building protesting President Clinton and holding signs bad-mouthing America.

Apparently this rubbed me the wrong way, because I stopped what we were doing, went home, got my American flag, duct taped it to the roof of my big yellow 1978 Ford LDT, and proceeded to drive by the Federal Building multiple times, blowing my horn and flipping the bird to the Arab protesters. True, not the most mature and tolerant response, but it really ticked me off to see Arabs protesting my country for protecting people who were still living in Iraq; people these Arabs supposedly cared about.

So as my enthusiasm for George W. Bush went from high, to medium, to practically non-existent, it still didn’t cross my mind to protest. Plenty of people were doing that already. Hippies, tree-huggers, liberals…you know, the really productive members of our society?

I railed against government spending to whoever would listen. And this was back when liberals actually cared about deficits. Turns out they just don’t like Republican deficits. Really principled people.

And then BHO was elected President, and he decided that Bush’s deficits were chicken feed; he decided the only way to pull us out of our recession was to spend every single dime we can beg, borrow, or create at the Federal Reserve. And since the GOP lost what little backbone they had in 1995, people like me are the last defense of freedom and common sense in this country.

When a stoner from Northern KY is in the last line of defense against forces who will stop at nothing to socialize the United States and create debt for my great great-grandchildren, somebody has dropped the ball; a whole lot of somebodies.

But I won’t give up without a fight, so I’m attending the Tea Party in Cincinnati tomorrow. When all else is failing, peaceful protest is the only recourse left to real Americans. You know, actually productive people who won’t feel a need to throw rocks at windows or police. People who if you would ask them what they are protesting, they’ll know the answer. People who feel there is NO ONE left in our Federal Government who cares that we simply don’t have the money they are spending.

Obviously I will blog about my experience, and post pictures, not only to share my experience with my fellow protesters around the country, but also to tweak the liberals who tend to freak out when tea parties are discussed. You know the ones who have suddenly become obsessed with the act of “tea bagging?” Says a lot about the liberals themselves, but I digress: I don’t care much about liberals, sorry. They are the takers of our society, the gimme gimmes.

Well, we are tired of giving. It’s time for you people to earn what you get. A novel concept to many liberals, but what this country was built on nonetheless. It’s time for a little education.
