Government Must Walk the Walk by Rep. Kevin Brady (TX)

We are expected to be responsible stewards of the people’s money. It’s not Congress’ money, because the government doesn’t make money. With Americans worried about pink slips, we should have a laser focus on protecting their jobs, not putting them in jeopardy with new energy tax schemes that will cost every American family thousands of dollars a year. That’s a tax hike on everyone, not a tax cut. The Republican plan does it all: gets new American energy out of the ground and the ocean, while conserving and seeking out new, cleaner energy alternatives.
If our families have to live within their means, shouldn’t their government be required to do the same? If a mother has to put a box of her child’s favorite cereal back on the shelf because she can’t justify it in her budget, shouldn’t her government also be making tough decisions and cutting programs that aren’t performing? As Baby Boomers retire, the GOP budget takes preserving Social Security and Medicare seriously. Instead of taking over businesses, the Republican budget encourages new hiring and investment for the future by making sure this crisis is not just the first of many to be exploited for political gains. Expanding affordable health care for all Americans is a Republican budget goal, but that won’t be accomplished by a yet another government takeover. That is simply a recipe for more disaster to come.

Representative Brady’s comments are exactly right! Our founding fathers never intended for the federal government to control our lives. Think about it – no matter which party is in power (and presently the Democratic Party has total power) do you want “them” to make all our decisions for us? To control us from birth through death? To take our earnings and redistribute them according to their plan? To decide how much money we should earn in a given job? To determine our health care options? To control the flow of money through banks? The founding fathers designed our federal government to have limited powers in order for “we the people” to be closer to (and therefore have more oversight of) our local government(s).
If we continue down the path we are on, none of us will recognize our beloved nation in a few short years. The federal government will control everything from how warm or cold your home is, to what age you are considered “too old” and therefore not a “good risk” for some lifesaving treatment, to what type of car you can purchase and the list continues. In order to pay for their expanded role, we will be left with a pittance of our income on which to live and therefore totally at the mercy of “the government”.
I urge you to research what other countries are experiencing that have already gone down this road. How satisfied are the citizens of Canada or Great Britain for example with their medical options? What is the economic climate like in most of Europe at this time after years of expanding government controls and growing taxation.
Please spend the time – for our very future is at stake!
