Peter Schiff

There is currently a campaign to get Peter Schiff to run against Chris Dodd for Dodd’s CT Senate seat in 2010.

For those of you who don’t know who Peter Schiff is, his wikipedia site is a good place to start. A proponent of free markets and sound money, Schiff was an economic adviser to Dr. Ron Paul’s campaign for the 2008 Republican nomination. Add this to the fact that he was one of the few economists who saw the current crisis coming, and I’m sold.

It amazes me that some still wonder how we got into this mess. Could it be that the people we vote for are wholly ignorant of free market economics? Maybe putting a gaggle of lawyers inside the vault and giving them free reign to spend our money isn’t the best idea? We turn to economists in times of crisis to explain what’s going on, but why not let them “put their money where their mouth is” to used an overworked cliche?

I truly hope Mr. Schiff runs against Dodd in 2010. True, Dodd is vulnerable, but this is about more than booting an incumbent Senator. Ron Paul has said several times recently that he will probably not run for President in 2012. Either way, he is not a “spring chicken” by any stretch of the imagination. The Revolution will need a new leader, and I think Peter Schiff is that leader.

On a practical level, if President Obama has taught us anything, it’s that a brief stint in the Senate puts you in the running for the White House. If things get as bad as Mr. Schiff says they will, a brief Senate career combined with actual economic knowledge that has been tested in the real world will be enough to launch him into the 2012 spotlight.

It is no secret that the GOP needs a political leader. Someone who can articulate conservative principles, not because he read them out of a book, but because he lives them everyday. And he, or she, will come out of relative “obscurity.” For those of you pinning your hopes on candidates that couldn’t beat John McCain in 2008…the phrase “gluttons for punishment” comes to mind.

For more on Peter Schiff, go to his Youtube channel and do your own research. And if in the end, you feel like I do, join me in saying that Peter Schiff needs to challenge Chris Dodd for his seat, and keep the Ron Paul Revolution growing.
