This is Feminism?!

boxEarlier this week, Playboy.com published an article called “So Wrong It’s Right.” In it, misogynist Guy Cimbalo compiles a list of conservative women he’d like to “hate-f***.” Let’s be clear about something from the get-go: “hate-f***” means rape, pure and simple. Trying to justify it as something else is ignorant. In short, Mr. Cimbalo advocates the rape, degradation and humiliation of a group of women because of their political ideology – solely because their beliefs are different from his own. The author is shallow at best, sadistic at worst.

[Playboy was apparently so proud of Mr. Cimbalo’s work that they actually had the gall to send out a press release about it. To conservative bloggers! ]

Predictably, conservatives were outraged and liberals had a good laugh. Playboy quickly scrubbed the piece from their site for reasons unknown.  But Cimbalo’s hate-filled screed was already out there for the world to see and judge, in the form of screen shots and cached copies.  The article became a hot topic of debate and discussion on right- and left-leaning blogs, which I saw as a good thing.

Knowing that Bonnie Erbe, a blogger at USNews, was a passionate defender of liberal women (such as Nancy Pelosi), I wrote to her in the hope that she would use her pulpit to rally to the defense of her right-leaning sisters. Instead of refuting the noxious ruminations of Cimbalo, Ms. Erbe piled on with more of her own.

hypocrite

Sure, she decided that some conservative women are worthy of being defended from the hatred, but the more opinionated of us (as symbolized by Michelle Malkin) are apparently not.  What I infer from Ms. Erbe’s writings is that the more we conservative ladies challenge the status quo and question stale stereotypes, the less she will defend our right to do so. This is feminism?!

It is ironic that Ms. Erbe closes her article by stating that Playboy “is past its time and should just fold up and go away.” Funny, that is exactly how I feel about Ms. Erbe and her antiquated notion of feminism.
