Tragedy at Fort Hood

In what appears to be a premeditated mass murder, 12 soldiers are dead and 31 wounded at Fort Hood, the nation’s largest army base near Killeen, Texas.
The gunman has been identified as 39 year old Maj. Malik Nadal Hasan, a soldier at the Texas base. It has been reported on Fox News the gunman was either a psychiatrist or psychologist at the facility, and was a convert to Islam. The army is investigating the possibility there may be two other soldiers involved in the shooting.
According to CNN affiliate KXAN in Austin, Texas, Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas, said she was told that the soldiers at the readiness facility “were filling out paper processing to go to Iraq or Afghanistan.”
According to spokesman at Fort Hood, the shootings took place at the soldier readiness area in the sports dome.
President Obama extended condolences to the families of the victims at a press conference this afternoon. Obama stated, ”It is difficult enough when we lose these brave Americans in battles overseas. It is horrifying that they should come under fire at an Army base on American soil.”
Fort Hood remains closed and on lockdown.
