CPAC: Marco Rubio

Marco Rubio, the Florida Senate candidate who is making a name for himself outside of The Sunshine State borders, opened CPAC after an edifying introduction made by Senator Jim DeMint of South Carolina.  Crossing the stage to chants of “Marco! Marco!”, the 30-something candidate captivated the crowd and elicited cheers, standing ovations, and proved why he has a lead in the Senate race.

Convincing someone to take up your cause is always easier when you have a personal story to provoke their emotions; the same holds for candidates in need of votes.  Rubio not only offered general stories about his childhood, but specific details that transformed the recollection to something endearing.  He shared details about his grandfather teaching him that although the family he was born into in Cuba limited his opportunities, Marco would never experience restriction on his goals, dreams, or ambitions simply because of who his parents are.  Rubio also explained that his parents, Cuban refugees who escaped the crumbling country, “worked jobs so their children could have careers”.  These modest beginnings woven with conservative principles have been the very things responsible for Marco Rubio’s rise in political popularity.

He says his parents know what it is like to lose their country and this perspective spurs his passion and urgency.  Marco aims to put America back on course of exceptionalism and gave us a clear list of how exactly he plans to do that:

  1. Rubio will be the answer Americans are looking for, a Senator who understands what is currently happening, is willing and able to stand up against it, and will present a clear alternative
  2. Tax code reformation and tax cuts across the board, including those on dividends, capital gain, interest, and the death tax
  3. Hindering of energy mandates like cap-and-trade with promotion of American innovation to achieve a higher level of energy independence
  4. Put the consumer in charge of healthcare spending
  5. Tort reform
  6. To “do whatever it takes for however long it takes to defeat radical Islamic terrorism
  7. Punish terrorist allies like Iran and support American allies such as Israel
  8. Target and destroy terrorist cells and their leaders, capturing the survivors, interrogating them, and bringing them to justice in a military tribunal – not a civilian criminal court

Marco Rubio said it best when he proclaimed, “what makes America great is not that we have more rich people than anyone else.  What makes America great is that there are dreams that are impossible everywhere else but are possible here.”  He represents clearly the manifestation of the American Dream and it’s easy to see why so many patriots are investing their hope in him.

“Simply put, there is nothing like America in all the world.  And even today with the problems that we face, who would you rather be?  Which country would you trade places with?  Just remember, an afterthought, when was that last time that you heard news accounts about a boatload of American refugees arriving on the shores of another country?”  Rubio is doing his part to preserve our great nation and the freedom that makes it the shining city on the hill.

    Ashley,

I thought Marco was the best speaker at CPAC! You could just tell this guy gets it! He loves America and he loves our Constitution and he will win in Florida and one day we may all get to vote for him, as President! I sure would!
