With 18 years of political experience in her back pocket, Elizabeth Blackney is using her vast amount of knowledge to make her mark on the political scene. Elizabeth first became intrigued with politics when she participated in a class trip at age 11 with other honors students from her school. The trip took Elizabeth all the way to Washington D.C. where she and her classmates received a Capital tour from none other than Newt Gingrich. Since then, the “unapologetic” Dick Cheney supporter has worked on behalf of dozens of campaigns, become a media maverick, and even authored her own book titled Sex, Lies, and Politricks.
While on the campaign trail, Elizabeth had the honor of contributing to numerous diverse races including the 2004 Presidential race. During that race, Elizabeth had the exciting opportunity to experience what it was like working for the Bush campaign. She also considers Bob Schaffer’s run for Senate back in 2004 one of her favorite campaigns.
In addition to working on campaigns, Elizabeth served as the Political Director for Blog Talk Radio’s election coverage in 2008. As the Political Director, she managed over 100 hosts, booked guests such as John McCain and Sarah Palin, coordinated publicity, and interviewed Congressman Eric Cantor. She considered it to be an “absolutely fascinating job.”
Elizabeth earned the title “Media Lizzy” as she has turned to the internet to report news stories and give her opinions on hot topics. Elizabeth wrote for the AOL News Hot Seat in which she reported on current pressing issues. Today, she utilizes her website, www.medializzy.wordpress.com, her Facebook page and Twitter in order to shed light on the issues she is most passionate about such as national security, African aid and human rights issues. While she is currently not using these outlets to make endorsements, she is planning on making her first endorsement in the near future.
For now, Elizabeth looks forward to speaking at the second annual Smart Girl Summit in September. “It’s like a sisterhood within the political scene,” Elizabeth says while referring to Smart Girl Politics. “Any place where we can build a coalition where smart people get together to talk about real solutions for our government is a great thing” Elizabeth is excited to share her views on aid in Africa as well as wisdom from the campaign trail.
