The Next Generation: Alana Kane
Blessed with a gift for working with kids and a passion for politics, Alana Kane is wasting no time utilizing her talents as she is currently majoring in social studies education at Purdue University. As a firm believer in civic virtue, Alana places a great deal of value on voting, staying well-informed and helping others learn more about our government. As a result, she looks forward to helping students become more civically active and says, “It’s important that students understand their government and that they have support for what they believe.” Ultimately, Kane hopes to spread her love of government so that students will learn how important it is to preserve the freedom our founding fathers fought to protect. Kane came to this conclusion after being involved in the “We the People” program at Hamilton Southeastern High School in Fishers, Indiana. The program provides mock congressional hearings in which students are required to be extremely knowledgeable on the Constitution. As part of the program, she presented extensive papers on political topics before a panel of judges. Kane focused on modern day functions of the branches of government as well as why we chose the type of government we have over others. ...
Elizabeth Blackney Joins Smart Girl Summit 2010
by Kristin Patras With 18 years of political experience in her back pocket, Elizabeth Blackney is using her vast amount of knowledge to make her mark on the political scene. Elizabeth first became intrigued with politics when she participated in a class trip at age 11 with other honors students from her school. The trip took Elizabeth all the way to Washington D.C. where she and her classmates received a Capital tour from none other than Newt Gingrich. Since then, the “unapologetic” Dick Cheney supporter has worked on behalf of dozens of campaigns, become a media maverick, and even authored her own book titled Sex, Lies, and Politricks. While on the campaign trail, Elizabeth had the honor of contributing to numerous diverse races including the 2004 Presidential race. During that race, Elizabeth had the exciting opportunity to experience what it was like working for the Bush campaign. She also considers Bob Schaffer’s run for Senate back in 2004 one of her favorite campaigns. In addition to working on campaigns, Elizabeth served as the Political Director for Blog Talk Radio’s election coverage in 2008. As the Political Director, she managed over 100 hosts, booked guests such as John McCain and Sarah Palin, coordinated publicity, ...
The Next Generation: Hannah Hill
While growing up in South Carolina, Hannah Hill learned first-hand from her parents the ins and outs of conservatism as well as the values on which our country was founded. In fact, Hannah says “conservatism and a passion for being involved has always been as natural as breathing.” As a result, she has chosen to become extremely involved in her community and works to see that the conservative message is heard. With a great foundation from home, Hannah became involved in a conservative political training program called Patriot Academy (PA). For the past three years, she has attended the week-long “conservative bootcamp” in which students take part in a mock legislative session. There students write bills, serve on committees, and present bills on the floor. In addition, Patriot Academy takes place in the Texas Capital building, so students present their bills on the floor of the Texas House of Representatives. Furthermore, students attend lectures and panel discussions in which they confer about the founding fathers, current issues, and public policy. Hannah says, “PA has had so much impact on me by one, showing me there are so many ways to be involved, even if you don't run for office; two, forcing ...
